Stay Safe at Brisbane Student Apartments

Your health and well-being are of the utmost importance at Brisbane Student Apartments. While you’re home, keep yourself and other residents safe by following the government’s restrictions on gatherings and social distancing.

While it may be extremely difficult to move away from all the activities that we’ve been accustomed to, these restrictions are in place to protect your health and the health of your friends and family. For more information on the current situation surrounding COVID-19 and recommendations from the Australian Government’s Department of Health visit https://www.health.gov.au/news/health-alerts/novel-coronavirus-2019-ncov-health-alert.

In the meantime, we’ve put together a small list of activities to keep yourself occupied while you’re social distancing and staying at home.

Movie/T.V Series Marathon

For the time being, it’s going to feel like our laptops or Televisions are our new best friend. If you’re missing your friends, call them up and schedule to watch a movie or a new tv show at the same time, you’ll be able to still chat with them, listen to the commentary and feel like you’re still hanging out with them.

Netflix is fast-tracking the release of a bunch of new movies, amid the fact that everyone can’t head out the cinemas and we’re all spending a lot of time indoors.

If you haven’t yet seen them. Here are our top picks for binge-worthy self-isolation viewing to keep your mind occupied.

#1 Tiger King

Tiger King is a new Netflix documentary about the world of Tiger and Lion owners in America. It has an attempted murder plot, a missing person case, a wedding, country music, and plenty of weirder and incredibly entertaining episodes.

#2 Love is Blind

Love is Blind is a dating experiment that takes a bunch of strangers and asks them to go on dates, but the only catch is that they can’t see what the other person looks like. They’re placed in pods (rooms) with a screen between them and they get to know each other, knowing that in a few weeks time they will get married.

#3 The Chef Show

If you’re looking for some culinary inspiration during the self-isolation, then the Chef show is what you need. It features Chef Roi Choi and Jon Favreau (director of Iron Man) for a cooking travelogue series. Learn to make Thai Green Curry, Tacos and even sourdough bread (that is if you can find flour in the supermarket).

At-Home Workouts

Keep yourself fit and healthy at Brisbane Student Apartments. While the gym, bootcamps and group classes are unavailable during this time, there is no reason you can not get a sweat at home. Jump on to Youtube or download one of the many fitness apps available.

Turn your room into a yoga studio, by pulling a yoga mat and watching and following movements on YouTube videos on yoga.

Fill up your backpack with all your books and do some resistance type workouts like squats or pushups with the backpack.

Get outside for some fresh air. At the moment, we’re still able to go out for walks or runs as long as we’re practising social distancing. Our student accommodation in Hamilton is perfect for relaxing walks along the river, while our residence at Kelvin Grove is perfectly situated close to another of green and spacious parks.

Get Crafty/start a new hobby

If staying at home is driving you crazy, it’s probably a good time for some self-discovery and learning a new hobby.

Give yourself some purpose, by learning a new language, drawing, picking up a book you’ve been meaning to read, listening to a podcast, learn how to code or get adventurous in the kitchen.

There are plenty of online courses and tutorials to keep you entertained and by the end of this, you might find yourself a quiz master or a jack of all trades.

Support Your Local Get-Takeaway

Our hospitality industry is really doing it tough since the new restrictions which have seen many businesses close down. The businesses that are still keeping their doors open and operating a takeaway business need your support.

Continue your Friday night takeaway nights by ordering direct from small businesses around your neighbourhood. There are plenty of delicious and budget-friendly options too, so I ask around what the specials are.
